Bahrain Denounces Washington Correspondents’ Dinner Shooting
(MENAFN) Bahrain has strongly condemned the shooting incident that took place during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, DC on Saturday evening, where US President Donald Trump was present, according to reports citing a statement from the Foreign Ministry.
The ministry reiterated Bahrain’s firm rejection of violence and terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, while also expressing solidarity with the United States and its people.
It further praised the alertness and effectiveness of security personnel, noting that their rapid response helped prevent further escalation and led to the arrest of the attacker. The statement also extended wishes for a swift recovery to an injured security officer.
The incident occurred at the Washington Hilton Hotel, prompting the evacuation of President Trump, the first lady, the US Vice President, and other senior officials present at the annual gathering.
Authorities have identified a 31-year-old suspect, Cole Thomas Allen, who is currently in custody as investigations continue into his background and possible motives, according to reports.
A legal official in Washington stated that the suspect “will be arraigned on Monday in federal district court.”
Following the incident, Trump described the suspect as a “very sick person” and a “thug” who had attacked the US Constitution, according to reports.
